Easter

I hope you all had a fabulous Easter or Passover and were able to celebrate your blessings with close family and friends.  We sure did!  A gorgeous spring day gave way to one of the most beautiful tables I have ever seen (complete with fancy folded napkins done by a DUDE, I might add!), stunning wines and Champagne, and a delicious spread of all the traditional dishes of the day.  Thank you to our lovely host and hostess for their abundant hospitality, love and friendship!  We are truly blessed.

Just look at those napkins!  When asked where he learned how to fold like a true pro, the response was, "The internet.  You too can learn."
I think I will leave the fancy folding to this talented fellow.

Ready. Set..

LAUNCH!!!

Here she is!  Sip.savor.style is official and LIVE!!  My little project is public and I can blab about it all I want now and so can you!  Check out the website at www.sipsavorstyle.com and let me know what you think then quickly grab your calendar and book an event!  I promise you won't be disappointed.
I can't thank my girl Keri enough for all the hard work she did to give this little project legs.  The creativity and unbelievable patience she exhibited while trying to corral my left sided brain into a right brained project was amazing.  Many evenings were spent at my dining room table trying desperately to understand my vision and shape it into what you see on the website.  Let's just say that the final product is a far cry from where we began last September!  Thank you so much, Keri, for everything you did and for only giving me semi-puzzled head cocked sideways stares when I would constantly change my idea, shift my colors, fuss over fonts, and generally make you bite your lip, pause, and slowly say, "Okay...."  You could have easily thrown up your hands and said "you are one crazy train mofo and this gig is over"  but you didn't and you stuck with me and I owe as big as one could possibly owe anyone.  Thank you, thank you, thank you to you and your amazing team at Marketing Lab.  You made it all look very easy, and I know it wasn't.  I promise to make you proud!

And another enormous thank you goes to Ms. Heather Fenske at Heather Fenske Photography.  Once again, you exemplify patience.  You are so talented, fun, and absolutely cool as a cucumber.  You must check out her website and make your appointment now!  She is a busy chick and trust me, you're gonna want her!
And finally a huge GRACIAS to Matt at Evolution for Hair.  We shot our session at his studio in LynLake and the place is amazing.  Beautiful light, fun furniture, a gorgeous bar in the back and an over all laid back cool vibe.  And he gives one helluva blowout!!  XXOO
So there you have it.  I'm super excited about this project so help me spread the word and let's drink some wine together!
Cheers!!!

(FYI- not sure if Facebook and Twitter are properly linked yet but will be by early next week.)

Dear Blog...

Dear Blog,
I am so sorry to have ignored you for the last week and a half.  I had to go to New York for a little fun with the girls- you know, a little eating (OK a lot), a little drinking (not as much as the eating), a bit of fashion (it was Fashion Week, after all), a splash of relaxation, obnoxious amounts of laughter, and loads of fun, the usual.  I had hoped to be in contact throughout the trip but there simply wasn't time.  You have my sincere apology.
I must admit I feel terrible that my mind has not been racing with blog post ideas for you when I hit the pillow at night.  I'm afraid I feel a bit guilty that my time has been been spent researching issues like trademarks and copyrighting and LL C's and S- Corps and insurance.  Not fun, but necessary for what's around the corner.  So please bear with me, dear Blog.  You will always be my first and I promise I will care for you and pay attention to you, but I can't help feel like I have been cheating on you a wee bit.  My thoughts have existed elsewhere lately and my mind has been wandering to arenas that don't directly involve you at the moment, but please stick with me.   You will be included in a big way and I am going to need to depend on your workhorse abilities to deliver my scattered ideas once they are organized, formulated and formatted for public consumption.  I think you will be proud and you will understand why I haven't been paying you much attention.  I promise we will get your feed glitch worked out and update you to the new format- I haven't forgotten.  I think you will be proud and excited about what I (we) have been working on, yet technically I have been given very specific instructions that I can't show you anything quite yet- you've been known to have a bit of a big mouth at times.
Okay you want a hint?  Just a little one?  Oh all right, that's probably fine.
It has to do with wine.  Da.
And people.  Double Da.
And a simple philosophy that goes along with how it's all supposed to be fun, and easy, and enjoyable, and approachable and not pretentious and......oh shut up already, will you!!!  There you go again.
Just sit with that for now because it's all I'm going to tell you or I will get my ass kicked.  And now I need to go back to work.

Much love,
kc

Introducing The Spectacular Bitch!

I was so excited when I opened my email this morning to learn that The Spectacular Bitch has gone live!  In case you're wondering, the SB is the sassy female alter ego to the Magnificent Bastard and she is finally ready to hand out opinions and advice on everything from Lady Gaga to sartorial sloughing, as in "Uggs are basically the boot equivalent of sweatpants, and as such, they will make your feet feel like two depressed fat asses with one hand on the remote control and one hand buried in a bag of Cheetos".  You will also love her general musings on pop culture, vino, music, and trends doled out freely in her signature brawny, sometimes backhanded, brazen humor.
The site is basically a mirror image (in pink) of the MB's and the witty, sassy, flirtatious tone of The Spectacular Bitch is part condescending, part sweet tart- my favorite combination.  I have been lucky enough to meet The SB in person once and she comes off demure in both stature and demeanor, soft spoken and appropriate.  Who knew she had all that peevish sauciness bottled up in her bad ass Latina self!  You Go Girl- Congrats!  And congrats to The MB for finally getting off his lazy, chino clad ass and building the code to allow her to go LIVE!  We can now officially crack open the Vino Blanco and toast to the launch of what will surely be a great site.
Viva Spectacular Bitch!  Salud!

Sorry, obviously I don't know how to use Spanish punctuation on my computer.  SB, can you help me out?

Are you there Chelsea?

It's me, Kristin.
You know, your number one fan.  In fact, I adore you so much and think you are so clever and hysterical that I actually want to be you.  Seriously, who doesn't want to sit at a desk with their three best friends and rip on stupid people who do stupid things?  And get a Belvedere vodka sponsorship to do it.  Daa- that's my kinda gig.
BUT...we need to address what happened last night.  Let's just say that little show you created on that very large network...you know, the NBC project?  Ummm, it's not working out so well.
Chelsea, Chelsea, Chelsea.
I am so sorry to tell you but the new show sucks.  Simply- it's totally, terribly, off the charts awful.   It sucks so big and bad I feel like an asshole just talking about it.
But here's the deal- your comedic tone can only be delivered in it's ballsy, brazen manner on a cable network like E!.  A mainstream network is not going to understand your humor, your outrageous stories and outlandish behavior let alone allow you to stick around.  I'm afraid it's going to be canceled after a few measly episodes.  It was... that bad.
I'm sorry, Chels, but when we hear the name Chelsea Handler we expect the real deal, the "in the flesh" Chelsea Handler.  Not some cut rate stand-in from That 70's Show that reads her lines like a blond robot.  It was painful.  And the most disappointing part of the whole deal was seeing you with brown hair portraying your straight laced, boring sister!  It was a total tease, not to mention downright confusing. The show was so slow, so boring, and so un-Chelsea like that it was a complete catastrophe.
Pleeezzzz, I beg you- and I still love you and want to meet you in person and aspire to actually have a show like yours where I can actually get paid to sound like I feel...
please don't quit your night job.

Holiday Inspiration

Just for you, here is the first installment of (what I think) are fabulous holiday gifts, recipes, sentiments, and inspiration.

1.  The Perfect Hostess Gift
Whether it is a beautiful candle, a bottle of red, white, bubbles, Bourbon or Balsamic make your gift stand out with beautiful wrapping.  A scarf, pretty piece of fabric or a tea towel makes your thank you gesture to your hostess personal and unique.  I will never forget getting a beautiful candle from a dear friend that was wrapped in one of her very stylish Grandmother's vintage scarves.  It was sentimental, touching, and completely gorgeous.

Check out One Sydney Road for beautiful tea towels in muted colors and clever patterns, along with totes (my pick is below), letter press prints, fun gift baskets and clever baubles.  A recent discovery, One Sydney Road has quickly become my go to site for gift inspiration.
And for the hostess at your holiday book club...

So true, right?

What to Wear...

I need help.
Another big 40th celebration coming up this weekend and we have been asked to dress as rock stars.  From any era.  I'm a little stumped, but here are a few of my ideas.

Does Sharon sing?  Would this count?

The hair alone would be fun

Okay, this would be just plain WRONG..

Pretty Easy

Kinda sleazy

Sweet.  Looks like Mr. C, right?

Did Slash have a singer companion or just groupies?

$5 goes to anyone that can identify this fella.
Hint- he does not live in Minnesota and likes to paint his toenails.

Are You Tired Yet? Celebration #2

And the celebrating continues...it's getting exhausting, I know, but it was worth it.  My sister and brother-in-law graciously opened up their home so Mr. C and his longtime pals could whoop it up old style as only this oxford shirt clad group could do.  His family was there, my family was there, friends from grade school, friends from college, friends all the way from Minnesota, hell, even his old girlfriend was there (she's lovely, I adore her) with her husband.  It was a special night and one I believe Mr. C will never forget.

Happy 4-0!

The Gang's all here!

Taco truck from Fork Catering in Sonoma County- delicious, creative, sustainable, a serious winner.

There were kids...

and Dad's and sisters.

There were lots of toasts..

And then came the roasts...

There were glamorous girls...

and 40 year old dancing fools.

And then it got late...

and the dancing got worse...

and the white guys started to overbite.

There were a few spills

but the gang's still here.

Forever.

Ya Sure...You Betcha

Are we there yet? Well, not quite, but I am looking through the tunnel and I can almost see the light. I raked my roof yesterday for what I hope will be the final time this season. I threw Ice Melt on the ground in hopes of seeing the pavers that lie beneath the nasty, uneven crap that has become my driveway. Yes folks, we have hit the Dog Days of Winter. Melt baby, MELT!!!

Before all this glorious snow gives way to green leaves and grass, let's not forget about all the fun times we had this winter. So often my West Coast friends say, "How the hell do you do it?" Or, more directly, "WHAT the hell do you do for all those, long, dark months?"
Well, my West Coast pals, this one's for you.

Here in what is most certainly known as God's Country (insert chuckle #1) we spend most weekends drinking coolers full of PBR in heated shacks while sitting around a hole in the ice that we popped open with a giant corkscrew (insert chuckle #2) waiting for a catch. Yeah baby, ice fishing!
With a backpack full of bologna sandwiches and a flask or two of Peppermint Schnapps's we tell Ole and Lena jokes until our faces are frozen then hop on our snowmobiles with one eye open and hope we make it across the vast frozen wasteland that doubles as a recreational lake in the summertime while dodging the DNR. Needing at least one bump before making it all the way home, we beach our sleds at the nearest dive bar where the Juke Box (yeah, I said Juke Box) plays only Country and you pull a frozen pizza out of a cooler and hand it to the frosted hair beauty behind the bar and tell her to pop it in for ya while she mixes you a Folger's and buttered rum concoction. Hopefully by now you are sober enough to jump into your pick-up (watch the gun rack) with two eyes open to be home in time for Cheer's reruns.

Typical day in Minnesota, right? OOOOHHHH NOOOO.
(Can't you just hear the accent?)

Ummm, Minnesota friends, I hate to inform you, but this is what so many folks on the Left Coast believe we do with our time from December to April. I kid you not. Don't be offended, it's all right. Let them think we are a collection of bumpkins with missing teeth and a taste for processed, salted meats.
But let's be honest here, winter can be long. It can bleak. It can be downright depressing when you don't breathe fresh air for 48 hours at a stretch, but I gotta hand it to ya, my hearty Midwestern comrades- you know how to have a hellava good time!

www.pedalpub.com.

Betcha never heard of this West Coasties- peddling around your own sixteen seater personal pub from bar at bar. Quite a novel way to do a pub crawl AND keep the PBR flowing! Fun stuff.
(Never mind the Lederhosen on the fella in the middle.)

We play a miniature form of tennis with a paddle. In a cage. In the snow with a heated floor. Even when it's 8 degrees. OK, it sounds weird, but it's cool.
And then there is the cross country skiing, the snowshoeing, the hockey, the downhill skiing.

We earn our stripes here in The Heartland and we wear them with dignity and honor. It takes a special person to be able to handle life in this freezing little corner of the world.
I am proudly sewing my "I Survived my Fourth Winter in Minnesota" on my knee- length North Face jacket. Yup, you betcha. I've made it (almost) four years and have not gone criminally insane. Yet.

She thought he couldn't pull it off...

Well, Mrs. F, he certainly did!

As you all know, I love a good party, but nothing makes me more excited than a party with flair, distinction, and a little something special. Last week Mrs. F turned the BIG 4-0 and her hubby threw her quite a bash. Bradstreet Crafthouse in the Graves 601 hotel was filled wall to wall with family and friends and the vibe was just right for this special celebration. Signature cocktails (Cooper's Union= fantastic!), great gifts (my personal favorite being a 40 oz. beer and 40 lottery tickets), some of the most delicious food (can you say spicy lamb sliders with cucumber tzatziki?!) and one of the best favors I have ever received at a party- a 500 ml personalized jug of red wine! A multi vintage red blend from Mercury Winery in the Alexander Valley (Sonoma County) was just the perfect touch to send home with everyone. I loved this! The blend is soft, approachable, fruit forward and truly delish.
You can purchase your own wooden crate of the 500 ml bottles on their website, just click here.
Mrs. F is a special customer so I'm not sure if they will personalize your bottles, but I do think these little numbers make the perfect hostess gift, an excellent addition to your picnic basket this summer, or what the hell, just the perfect amount to enjoy by yourself at home!

Cheers and Happy Birthday Mrs. F!

I Heart a Great Meal

Busy few days ahead.

Friday evening we are cooking for a table full of food and wine people (can you say one renowned local chef and his wife, one pair of seriously seasoned eaters and drinkers, a VP of one of the largest food service purveyors and her partner who just happens to be the owner of one of the biggest restaurant groups in the Twin Cities) and I am a little nervous about what I might have gotten us into. Mr. C loves a challenge like this, but in my book there is nothing worse then having a meal flop when you have a table full of professional eaters with big expectations. So I am sitting down for a little menu planning session and not feeling a ton of inspiration on this freezing morning.
Lamb, beef tenderloin, pork? No clue which direction to go with this group.
Mr. C wants to serve the magnum of Goldeneye Pinot Noir from the Anderson Valley that we have been waiting to try and back it up with our favorite Alain Graillot Crozes Hermitage. Do we even need to serve food? Can't we just drink our dinner? Probably not. Stay tuned and see where this menu planning actually takes me as we slide into Friday evening....

Now looking ahead to Valentine's Day. I must admit this is a date the two of us don't celebrate to the fullest. It's kind of akin to New Year's Eve- a little amateurish in my book. The only Valentine tradition I wholeheartedly support is the inclusion of Bubbles. As in Billecart Salmon, Louis Roederer, Krug- but why not go a little nuts with something like Champagne Chartogne-Taillet? This is a tiny producer in the Merfy region of Champagne that is doing some delicately delicious stuff with bubbles. That to me is special. Why would I want to go to the local steakhouse with a room full of people about to get engaged and leave with a single stemmed red rose from the maitre'd?
Not my kinda night.
We are tossing around the idea of a cooking class at Cooks of Crocus Hill that comes with a pretty decent wine pairing, but who knows? I would be up for a night at Piccolo, Tosca, Vincent, but more then likely Mr. C will want to uncork something special at home and prepare a great meal. Once again, stay tuned.

Cheers to a great weekend!
