Reflections on Flynn

Band or choir?  Latin, French, Chinese or Spanish?  I can't believe that I am registering my first born son for Middle School.  Where have the last 10 1/2 years gone?  It is no cliche to say that sometimes "the days feel long but the years fly by."  Indeed.

My quiet, contemplative, tentative child has grown into a handsome, confident, funny, interesting individual who has taught me not only how to organize my iTunes library and work my iPhone, but how to cook the perfect omelet, throw a spiral, ski a black diamond with confidence (sort of), enjoy a road trip, savor a good hike, swim in the sunshine and appreciate nature.

I have watched my little "bug whisperer" invite butterflies to land on his fingers, trap lizards with his bare hands, stroke an injured sea turtle in the sea, tame a gopher from our backyard in California (no joke), and hold bumblebees in the palm of his hand.  He is a kid with a quiet charisma that does not go unnoticed, although sometimes I think he wishes that it would.  He likes to fly under the radar, but kiddo I hate to tell you, your smile gets you noticed even when you have no words to say.

I know how unbelievably excited you are to move forward to your new school next year. You can hardly wait- and not just for the endless cafeteria choices- I see it in your eyes and in your gestures when you talk about what lies ahead.  There is such a genuine desire to blast off into this new unknown and for that I am so proud of you.

Don't hold back; continue to embrace and enjoy your experiences every single day and I will continue to cherish being able to observe your joy.

Go get 'em, sweet child of mine.  I love you.

Dear Blog...

Dear Blog,
I am so sorry to have ignored you for the last week and a half.  I had to go to New York for a little fun with the girls- you know, a little eating (OK a lot), a little drinking (not as much as the eating), a bit of fashion (it was Fashion Week, after all), a splash of relaxation, obnoxious amounts of laughter, and loads of fun, the usual.  I had hoped to be in contact throughout the trip but there simply wasn't time.  You have my sincere apology.
I must admit I feel terrible that my mind has not been racing with blog post ideas for you when I hit the pillow at night.  I'm afraid I feel a bit guilty that my time has been been spent researching issues like trademarks and copyrighting and LL C's and S- Corps and insurance.  Not fun, but necessary for what's around the corner.  So please bear with me, dear Blog.  You will always be my first and I promise I will care for you and pay attention to you, but I can't help feel like I have been cheating on you a wee bit.  My thoughts have existed elsewhere lately and my mind has been wandering to arenas that don't directly involve you at the moment, but please stick with me.   You will be included in a big way and I am going to need to depend on your workhorse abilities to deliver my scattered ideas once they are organized, formulated and formatted for public consumption.  I think you will be proud and you will understand why I haven't been paying you much attention.  I promise we will get your feed glitch worked out and update you to the new format- I haven't forgotten.  I think you will be proud and excited about what I (we) have been working on, yet technically I have been given very specific instructions that I can't show you anything quite yet- you've been known to have a bit of a big mouth at times.
Okay you want a hint?  Just a little one?  Oh all right, that's probably fine.
It has to do with wine.  Da.
And people.  Double Da.
And a simple philosophy that goes along with how it's all supposed to be fun, and easy, and enjoyable, and approachable and not pretentious and......oh shut up already, will you!!!  There you go again.
Just sit with that for now because it's all I'm going to tell you or I will get my ass kicked.  And now I need to go back to work.

Much love,
kc

Introducing The Spectacular Bitch!

I was so excited when I opened my email this morning to learn that The Spectacular Bitch has gone live!  In case you're wondering, the SB is the sassy female alter ego to the Magnificent Bastard and she is finally ready to hand out opinions and advice on everything from Lady Gaga to sartorial sloughing, as in "Uggs are basically the boot equivalent of sweatpants, and as such, they will make your feet feel like two depressed fat asses with one hand on the remote control and one hand buried in a bag of Cheetos".  You will also love her general musings on pop culture, vino, music, and trends doled out freely in her signature brawny, sometimes backhanded, brazen humor.
The site is basically a mirror image (in pink) of the MB's and the witty, sassy, flirtatious tone of The Spectacular Bitch is part condescending, part sweet tart- my favorite combination.  I have been lucky enough to meet The SB in person once and she comes off demure in both stature and demeanor, soft spoken and appropriate.  Who knew she had all that peevish sauciness bottled up in her bad ass Latina self!  You Go Girl- Congrats!  And congrats to The MB for finally getting off his lazy, chino clad ass and building the code to allow her to go LIVE!  We can now officially crack open the Vino Blanco and toast to the launch of what will surely be a great site.
Viva Spectacular Bitch!  Salud!

Sorry, obviously I don't know how to use Spanish punctuation on my computer.  SB, can you help me out?
